I Am Thine: Reflections on a Sacred Passage

In God Makes the Rivers to Flow; An Anthology of the World’s Sacred Poetry & ProseEknath Easwaran includes a selection from Saint Francis de Sales entitled “I Am Thine, Lord.”  I’ve written the following poem-like reflections inspired by this selection.

I Am Thine

I am thine, Lord, and am to belong to none but to thee.

My soul is thine, and ought not to live but by thee;

my will is thine, and ought not to love but for thee,

my love is thine, and is only to tend to thee.

—Saint Francis De Sales

You are my sunshine,

You are my moon,

You are my stars,

You are my water,

You are my fire,

You are my bread,

You are my wine,

You are my mother,

You are my father,

You are my lover,

You are my beloved,

You are my brother,

You are my sister,

You are my child,

You are my summer,

You are my fall,

You are my winter,

You are my spring,

You are my roses,

You are my daffodils,

You are my daisies,

You are my tulips,

You are my lavender,

You are my sugar,

You are my spice,

You are my rock,

You are my earth,

You are my trees,

You are my silver,

You are my gold,

You are my copper,

You are my bronze,

You are my diamonds,

You are my emeralds,

You are my rubies,

You are my amethysts,

You are my big bang,

You are my blanket,

You are my sheets,

You are my pillow,

You are my hugs,

You are my kisses,

You are my light,

You are my brilliant, radiant dark,

You are my hope,

You are my faith,

You are my love,

You are my grace,

You are my forgiveness,

You are my best friend,

You are my breath,

You are my heartbeat,

You are my blood,

You are my skin,

You are my feet,

You are my hands,

You are my stomach,

You are my gut,

You are my mind,

You are my memory,

You are my everything.

And I belong to you.
