In God Makes the Rivers to Flow; An Anthology of the World’s Sacred Poetry & Prose, Eknath Easwaran includes a selection from Meera entitled “Life of My Life.” I’ve written the following poem-like reflections inspired by this selection.
My Dream
You are the peace of my mind;
You are the joy of my heart;
You are my beauty and my wealth.
–Meera
Lord, you are the kiss of my lips,
the touch of my feet on the ground,
the connection between my hand and another’s.
You are all the sweetness that I taste.
You are my vision.
You are the music that I hear.
You are the streets I walk
and the destination I seek.
You are the air on my skin.
You are my breath.
You are the table laid out before me
and the chair I sit on.
You are my foundation
and my shelter.
You are my comforter, my sheets, my blankets, my bed.
You are the heat of the furnace
and the warmth of my coat.
You are the books I read,
the speakers I hear,
the wisdom imparted within.
You carried me all the days of my madness.
You walked with me through the mental hospitals
and through my healing.
You were my doctors and nurses.
You are the medication in my veins.
You never stop holding my hand.
You are always wrapping me in your embrace.
You are the secrets in my heart.
You sit at the throne in my heart chamber.
You guide my every action.
I can always rely on you.
You are the love of my mother and father.
You are the money in the bank.
You are right employment, right action.
You are the order of the universe.
You are my faith.
You are my love.
You are my power.
You are my will.
You are my imagination.
You are my strength.
You are all the children I could have had.
You are my judgment.
You are my righteousness.
You are my creator.
You spun me in my mother’s womb.
You gave me all my desires.
You are my mission.
You are my hope.
You are my dream.
