One with the Light: Reflections on a Sacred Passage

In God Makes the Rivers to Flow; An Anthology of the World’s Sacred Poetry & Prose, Eknath Easwaran has included a selection from the Tao te Ching and entitled it “Mother of All Things”  I have written the following poem-like reflections inspired by this selection.

One with the Light

Use the light.
Come home to your true nature.
Don’t cause yourself injury:
This is known as seizing the truth.
—Lao Tzu

You have been out in the dark too long.

There is a spark in your heart that longs to consume you, a Divine spark.

Dive into your heart and blow on that spark until it becomes a bright light, illuminating your path.

With that light as your guide, you can’t make a false step.

The path is only dark outside the light.

You will only stumble if you suffocate the light.

But the light will never go out.

Don’t suffocate the light.  Don’t create your own undoing.

Breathe deeply.

Follow the light to the home of the light, where everything is light.

Forget yourself and become one with the light.

You will know the truth.

It will leap like a puppy into your arms, and lick your face all over.
